Good Day Crafters:
Now before you shoot the messenger, let me explain the title of this blog post.
While it is several months away until the holidays (that a great deal of people celebrate in Ontario), it isn't a lot of time to create and make hand-made items. I don't know about you but it seems like the pricing on so many things continues to creep up and up. That's why I usually start in the warmer months designing for the cooler months.
Home Decor crafts to give to someone else is pretty much all the rage right now. Unique items such as cards, floral displays, unique canvas art and even ornate ornaments focusing on the holiday being celebrated.
I love receiving hand-made items and while you may think otherwise, it shows me the care and effort someone took to provide something unique for me. Even those little hand crocheted dish clothes bring a smile to my face!
I've just received many of the craft supplies to start making the holiday projects. I think you will find them fun, unique and worthy of giving to that special someone. Together we can have fun and create something special. I hope you can join me for one of the upcoming classes. You will leave with a unique craft and be proud of your efforts. Heck, you just may want to keep it for yourself. Here are a few pictures of the classes from last years classes.
As always, happy crafting!
I've been getting lots of inquiries and I thought I would dedicate today's entry to some of them.
Pleasing To The Eye is not just a venue for classes. It is hoped that future events such as cropping; teaching flower shaping; card designing, home decor, proper use of craft tools and more, will be coming soon!
Right now, the class pre-work has been the number one focus, but there are lots of events that will be announced in the near future.
Is there something that you are missing when it comes to crafting?
Not everything designed here is about paper crafts! In fact, some of the canvas features bring together Stamperia elements and acrylic paints...these designs became very much your own art. While teaching this craft form, I have found that many participants leave with something that they created and only the technique is shared between my design and the one they took home.
Also, one person mentioned that they want to learn making the Heartfelt Creations Sunflowers but they aren't a scrapbooker. That's fine, too! I can show you how to take those designed elements and work them into home decor, card marking or the start of your own album. The focus is on learning a unique craft and it doesn't necessarily need to be placed on 12 x 12 paper. You can also take these beautiful shaped sunflowers and attached them to a frame, home decor item or card.
The emails have been welcomed and appreciated - please continue to send these in.
I thought I would also share a very small corner of my craft space - it's where the creativity starts.
As always, happy crafting!
While I am no professional camera-person, I thought my first mini video is a good start.
I wanted to create a small clip to show you the "Wedding Bliss" Flip-fold Album that will be available in small class formats.
Heartfelt Creations is the company that makes the Flipfold albums. The papers in this album are a combination of papers from Michael's crafts and Paper Wishes. Check out the websites for these suppliers - they all carry amazing craft supplies.
This album will be a memorable keepsake or a treasured gift for someone special. You can use it as a Wedding Album; Anniversary Album or a memory book!
There is no supply kit requirement for this class - everything will be supplied for you to put this album together and to bring it home completed.
Join me in this upcoming class. You won't be disappointed.
You will notice that I posted about a Wedding Flip-fold Album I am creating for an upcoming class. For inquiries on the number of pictures this album will hold - it would really depend on types and sizes. On average these albums hold between 60 to 100 pictures ranging in sizes. For example, you could use four extra large 5 x 7; 30 large 4 x 6; and many smaller snap shots. I find that since photos can be pricey, that most customers stick to one or two extra large (5 x 7 size) prints and use the large size for the remainder (on the 4 x 6 size) and crop them as needed.
Now, you don't need that many pictures to fill an album. An album looks equally nice with fewer pictures and some journaling about the event and the guests.
I hope you can join me in creating your very own custom Wedding Flip-fold Album. My classes are typically small - with about four to five participates in each session. Smaller class sizes allow me to help you complete your project in the time allotted.
I should have the pictures finished by the end of the week.
I always want to start the new week off with a fresh idea. When it comes to crafting, there are so many things that can provide inspiration to you.
As I work on my late summer and early fall classes, I try to provide a unique craft item for you to learn and/or hone better.
Paper is so versatile! It can be used to cover plain items; create life-like floral displays and even bring a smile to someone special in that celebration card you created.
Right now I am working on a wedding album class. I've selected a combination of teal green, grey/gray, lighter pinks and gold. My inspiration came from a series of paper packages I purchased from a company names "Paper Wishes". They are a US based company, that now provides some of their products through Amazon.
In particular, I choose, Botanical Frames Double-sided Paper Pack (035788042577) and Foiled Fancies in Swirls & Flourishes, Butterflies and Flowers packages. Check out www.paperwishes.com. They have amazing unique paper products and embellishments.
Here are a few pictures to give you an idea of the colour scheme for this new album.
Although I would rather be outside in this beautiful weather, I just had to share this post with you.
I'm very excited to launch the late August and early fall classes on my website.
I have finally linked them up to an on-line shopping cart and hope to get them linked to PayPal as well.
The dates for the classes will be posted shortly. So, please come back often and watch for the dates. Classes are small, so that I can interact with each of you - and have fun too!
Also, is there a special event you would like to host in your own home? Just send me a post and what you may be interested in - you may be pleasantly surprised what we can come up with - and at very reasonable prices as well.
I'm currently working on the late fall and holiday classes! There will be a selection on home décor, holiday layouts and cards. Depending on time, I may even be able to bring back one of the all time favourite classes - the "Exploding Album"!
As always, enjoy the weather and happy crafting!
Goodness - where has the time gone?
I've now retired from my normal 9 to 5 career and launching a home-based operation to share the arts & crafts skills I've learned over the past 25 years!
Classes will be starting soon in the Grand Bend and surrounding areas. Watch for notices!
If you are interested in joining my mailing list to get the first bits of information well ahead of everyone else, please send me a note in the "Contact Us" section of my website.
There are classes for all skill levels, catering to the adult crafter. (Please note that I do have classes for other ages in development - but for now, I will be focusing on classes for adults.)
Here is a sample of some of the new and exciting classes coming soon!
Flip-fold "My Family Tree" Album
Custom designed to hold a beautiful selection of vintage photographs and treasures. All elements have been pre-cut and sorted into each of the 14 surfaces to be embellished including front and back covers. The beautiful Heartfelt Creations Flip-fold Album is the base for this unique creation. It will be cherished for years to come. Please join me while we put this album together. Classes for albums usually take four hours. Album classes are $65.00 and include all materials to make this creation. You just need to decide what pictures you want to put in the album - and this can be done once you bring the finished album home with you. My first group of classes will come with a 20% discount. There are only a few seats available for the first group of classes. Watch for more information coming soon to Pleasing To The Eye!
Looking forward to meeting you soon.
This past weekend I designed and completed a new Flip-fold Custom Album. Participants will get my full attention in designing and compiling the beautiful pages within it. This class is five-to-six hours in length. Plus, it will be a challenge for those paper crafters looking to get their hands on a one-of-a-kind project. Join me this fall. With your class payment, you will be able to pick a theme and the colour palette. Each album will be unique. Come and join me this fall in Grand Bend, Ontario.
As always, happy crafting!
Over the past week or so I've reorganizing embellishments that I have had for many years. Looking through them and then deciding what I could use them for.
I used different types of clips to secure my pages in albums. I had a large stash of wooden embellishments and thought they could be an alternation to plain clips. Here are the results of using some glue and imagination.
You could colour them with inks, markers or clear glaze. They are bound to bring smile to your face.
As always, happy crafting!
